Welcome

Llewellyn (right) Guesthouse co-owner welcomes Martin to Durban in our Pub. It is always interesting to see what divergent careers our guests have - Martin is in corporate training and we have two film-makers in the house at the moment, all independent of each other.

Sunny skies and beach

With such awesome weather on the east coast during April, the beach is about the best place to be. Here is Llewellyn at our campsite at Scottburgh, about an hour's drive south of Durban, where we spent the last few days with the kids just chilling, walking on the beach, flying kites and enjoying our national past-time - a good old South African braai, or barbeque as foreigners might know it.

WineTasting at the Guesthouse

Latter Days
- the movie. We spent an awesome Sunday afternoon WineTasting and watching gay movies here at the guesthouse. It was a Facebook Event we created for the group Gay Durban.

Christian (Wes Ramsey), a hunky, 20-something, West Hollywood party boy gets more than he bargains for when he tries to seduce 19-year-old Elder Aaron Davis (Steve Sandvoss), a sexually confused Mormon missionary who moves into his apartment complex. When Christian exposes Davis' secret sexual desire, Davis' rejects Christian for being shallow and empty, The encounter shatters each boy's reality and draws the two into a passionate romance that risks destroying their lives. Latter Days is a charming, sexy, and moving tale that will leave yo
u believing in the transformational power of love.

Inbetween this, we had a little Lanzerac 1999 Cabernet Savignon, some Douglas Green 2006 Cabernet Savignon, a little Woolies Chardonay and some Tall Horse Merlot (the latter was actually the best).

Back to the movies, we followed up the wine and first movie with a second -
Shortbus.. a movie which had its Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival - lots of sex scenes and planty of cock, but quite stirring as several couples work though their sexual and relationship woes.

Visit to Clarens

Our friend Ralph phoned us out of the blue and said that he was off to Clarens so would we join him for the weekend. We have not seen Ralphie for over 3 years and it was a great chance to meet half-way between Durban and Johannesbureg in the little Free State town of Clarens.

So off we went and had an awesome weekend. The big surprize was meeting the top Durban and South African band Stealing Love Jones whose lead singer and drummer played to a lucky little group in the pub Friends in the heart of Clarens.
In the photos from top are:

Close-up self-pic of Dave, Llewellyn, Jacqui and Ralph in the Clarens Friends Pub. A pic of the incredible mountains in the Golden Gate National Park on the way to Clarens. Dave (right) gets to meet Isaac the lead drummer and Esjay Jones of the famous group Stealing Love Jones who wowed the Clarens fans. Llew and Dave stop to catch a photo of the rocks. And in the bottom picture, Llewellyn poses in a section of the pipe used to tunnel water through about 40kms from Lesotho to South Africa in the Lesotho Highlands Water project just outside Clarens.

Durban boys go visiting

Meeting up with friends is great, especially Nelius and Enzo - guests of ours from Cape Town who love visiting Durban, and we love visiting Cape Town. So here we are on a glorius summer's day in Cape Town last weekend where we went for a quick visit.

In the photos from top are Dave (we stopped at Hout Bay for some lunch after landing at CT airport on Friday). Llewellyn is in the next photo on the beach at Sandy Bay - not too far from Hout Bay. Then we met up with our Cape Town "circle of friends" - clockwise Enzo, Nelius, Llewellyn and Dave.

In the bottom photos, LLewellyn sips a Long Island Iced Tea cocktail on the verandah of Soho Restaurant in the Waterkant Gay Village in Cape Town. Showing some beef is Llewellyn sporting one of his new pairs of underwear from the FMO (For Men Only) shop in Sea Point - one of our favourite underwear shops (and you should see our new neoprene jocks!)

Gay Friendly Cruise from Durban

Suzie and Colette of Bent Girls fame are organising a gay friendly cruise this summer coming. You can leave Durban for Maputo and Portuguese Island this November on board the awesome MSC Sinfonia which is makign a debut in South African waters. By all accounts the ship is a step-up from the cruising ships we have had here before and the few days onboard with a host of gay guys and girls should be great fun.
Of course before and after the cruise you could extend your stay at Durban's only exclusively gay guesthouse right here on the Berea overlooking the city and Indian Ocean.
