Celebrating the US marriage equality decision

It's truly amazing to see how many people, both gay and straight, have adopted the Facebook rainbow filter in support of the USA Supreme Court decision to uphold marriage equality and ban any of the States from imposing a ban or restriction. It's about time, but great and welcome news.

Chilled weekend

It's been a chilled weekend with drinks to welcome our guests to the guesthouse on Friday followed by a superb dinner party with our friends Theuns and Theron who got married in Las Vegas recently.

Recently married - guesthouse owners Dave and Llewellyn left celebrate in the Guesthouse pub with Conny and Christer from Sweden who joined us for their honeymoon at the Guesthouse last week. Congratulations guys and here's to many more happy years!!

Durban was making a huge effort to emulate the Munich Bierfest this weekend with a huge drinking marquee Llew and myself attended with guests, friends and family this weekend.

The selfie stick, popular remote controlled gadget I brought back
from South Korea

Having just returned from visiting my daughter in South Korea, I brought back a handy gadget all the Koreans seem to be using - a selfie stick to take pics if you have short arms or want to crowd in more faces. 

So here are our guests in the guesthouse last night, being guinea pigs for my new selfie compositions. Welcome Hanre, David, Ronald (l to r back) and in front my partner and guesthouse co-owner Llewellyn, myself (Dave) and Craig.

The holidays are here... I am on leave from today and our guests are already arriving for a break before Christmas, soaking up some glorious Durban sunshine around the guesthouse pool.

The fabulous weather we've been having in Durban has been swept away this weekend by the light rain and cooler conditions the Cape have sent us... but nothing that a few drinks can't solve.

Cooking up a storm

Fede and Josh have been moel guests cooking up a storm for us on a few occasions during their 7 week stay over the International Film Festival in Durban. We're going to be sorry to see you guys go back to Boston!!! We really loved your stay.

Barry visits

Guesthouse co-owner Dave welcomes Barry to the guesthouse - a chance to get away from the rat-race and come and soak up some of Durban's glorious winter weather. Especially the warm rooftop Jacuzzi at night where Barry spent most of his quiet time.

 

Fede and Josh excell

Josh from the States and Federico from Spain have decided they can get married at last after a USA Court decision that now recognises state laws for immigration purposes. Thus if a non-citizen marries a citizen in a state where marriage is legal (eg Massachusetts where Josh comes from), then Fede will be able to get his green card, whereas before the federal immigration laws did not recognise the gay marriage at federal level.

 

Here they show us their Italian cooking skills with a spread of roquefort gnocci for mains and parma ham starters as we party it up with guests ahead of the July Handicap races which take place today.

Gay Wedding at the guesthouse

Congratulations to Paul and Neil who got married at the Guesthouse yesterday. What a beautiful ceremony on the rooftop at the sun was setting over the city as they said their commitments to each other. Arriving in Durban from Newcastle in the UK on Wednesday it was a whirlwind few days and we were delighted to be part of the service. Paul and Neil have already been together for 14 years and felt that it was time to get married and come somewhere exciting for the ceremony and honeymoon.
