Fun at the house

The KZN Gay and Lesbian Tourism Association's boerie and cocktails event at the guesthouse this weekend was great fun. There was a good turnout and we saw many familiar and new faces. Great organisation by the Association including a car-guard for the guests, and fabulous pink boerie rolls.

Cocktails and Boerie evening at the Guesthouse this Saturday

The KZN Gay and Lesbian Tourism Association are holding a cocktails and boerie evening at the Guesthouse this Saturday and you're invited.

It starts early so if the weather's good, bring your costumes (or none) and towel and let's have some fun around the pool and rooftop as we watch the sun set over Durban. Hear from the organisers:

KZNGALTA ( KZN Gay and Lesbian Tourism Association) in conjuction with Durban View Guest House is hosting a "Fabulous in Pink Fundraiser". KZNGALTA's objective is to turn KZN into a Gay hotspot for tourists and business owners alike and also a friendly and prosperous province, in so doing allowing both tourists and locals to benefit from a booming tourist industry. We would like to rival the other great gay tourist centres like Joburg and Cape Town...if not better.

To do this our NPO needs to have funds in order to market our beautiful province and its entrepreneurs . None of the KZNGALTA board members or general members earn money but rather do this job to benefit KZN as a whole making it profitable as an experience.

This Saturday the 7th November, the beautiful - and gay owned/friendly- Durban View Guest House will be hosting our event. Tickets will be sold at the door at R20pp which includes a FREE welcome Pink Cocktail. Unique pink boerewors rolls - yes PINK- will be served *limited stock available* at R20 a Roll, and a bar will be available where you can buy a drinks voucher book at R100 each which will include 4x R20 vouchers and 2xR10 vouchers. Proceeds will be going to KZNGALTAS fundraising too. Also we will be having a lucky draw raffle with R5 tickets sold to stand a chance of winning an awesome hamper worth Hundreds of Rands!

So come join us and remember to bring business cards as this will be a fantastic Networking event. The event is not soley for Gays and Gay business owners but for Gay Friendly people and businesses alike who would like to market to, and benefit from the "Pink Rand".

Date: 7 November
Time: 3:30pm for 4pm - 9pm
Adress: 16 Holstead Gardens (Durban View Guest House)
Theme/ Dress: Pink and Casual
Entrance: R20

NB***Cars: Cars MUST be parked in Haden Road, adjacent to Holstead Gardens Road, a car guard will be there to watch over your cars. Cars will NOT be permitted to park in Holstead Garden road as it is a small residential road. ***

It's another birthday for me and at 57 I'm probably in the best shape I have been in my life. Llew and I are going to have extended celebrations with a month in Europe next week, cruising the islands of Croatia and on the beaches of Mykonos. Thanks to Thomie who will be looking after our guests in our absence.

We flew to Madagascar over the Mozambique Channel

Llewellyn and I had an incredible adventure to Madagascar earlier this month, crossing the Mozambique Channel, the Bay of Maputo and the crossing to the offshore island of Ile Sainte Marie in our single engine 2-seater aircraft named ZDL (Zulu Dave Llewellyn). We joined together a tour group of 6 Sling aircraft and plotted our way through Madagascar, land of lemurs, baobabs and chameleons, all of which we saw, whilst also taking the time to chug local rum and coconut cocktails (once we had landed). See my aviation blog linked here, for the full story and the adventures each day.

Goodbye Charl

So sad to hear of the passing of our hero and Mr Gay World 2010, Charl vd Berg. You were a really beautiful person and an inspiration to many. The excitement as you captured the Mr Gay South Africa 2009 title then went on to dazzle the world in 2010 was amazing. Rest in peace dear soul, you will be missed. Llew and I pass our condolances to his partner and family.

Color Run Festival Durban

I can never say it often enough, how lucky we are to have this Durban winter weather. I got up before dawn this morning for a flight with my student pilot and then at 9am we were at the beachfront for the Color Run Festival basking in 25c winter sunshine.

Llew and I all coloured up at the finish

It's Pride in Durban

Celebrating the US marriage equality decision

It's truly amazing to see how many people, both gay and straight, have adopted the Facebook rainbow filter in support of the USA Supreme Court decision to uphold marriage equality and ban any of the States from imposing a ban or restriction. It's about time, but great and welcome news.

Winter sunshine in Durban

Nothing better than a public holiday to get up early and have some fun in the city. 10km cycle along the Durban beachfront followed by breakfast was the way to go. It's the same time of year as the 2010 World Cup Football in Durban and the weather again is absolutely stunning. Beach weather, suntanning and the perfect time to be outdoors.
