Marketing South Africa's skills

We had Guests Portia and Lauren at the Guesthouse this week on a mission to market the skills and fruits of labour of Eastern Cape artists. They have been making an unusual and beautiful collection of jewellry. The collection includes beaded wire necklaces, bracelets and rings in a range of dazzling white, black, silver and neon colours.

Both girls work for
Aid to Artisans, a charitable organisation that trains and promotes artisans principally from the Eastern Cape to run a manufacturing and marketing business that is sustainable. They also promote and market the jewellry nationally and internationally and help improve designs to increase the appeal of the finished product to the international community.

You can contact the girls by
email and soon a list of retailers where the jewellry can be bought will also be made available.

Business as usual

It's been a sweat, but it's business as usual at the Guesthouse as our building alterations near completion. The rooms are back in commission and the steel framework for the wooden patio deck is now complete. This will give the upstairs rooms a deck to walk out onto, smoke in comfort or sit down for a cup of coffee or a sundowner cocktail.

Underneath, we will have an extended covered entertainment area and a new breakfast setting.

It's very exciting and some of our guests who have seen the work in progress will be able to return after next week to see the completed project.
