Hot Llewellyn

We've been struggling to work out how to keep our candle-sticks burning, as the candles keep melting in the cast-iron holders in Durban's sunny weather. So we tried some flaming oil instead. Here's Llewellyn around the guesthouse pool checking out the flaming torch.

Andrew joins the house

Our guests Kris (left) and Matthew (right) from Scotland were joined at the house by Andrew (middle) a USA citizen who has been living in Johannesburg for the past few years and stopped by to check out the gay scene in Durban en route to his work project in rural Transkei.

QuiksilverPRO Surfing 11-20 Apr

Durban beachfront is the place to be over the next 10 days as the Quiksilver PRO gets under way. This international event is a regular surfing event for Durban taking place at New Pier, North Beach and takes advantage of our glorious April weather. This brings the beautiful boyz to the beach and provides a feast for the eyes.

Scottish lads or are they?

We thought we were going to meet some nice Scottish lads when they booked, but it turns out that Matthew (right) is actually from Pinetown originally - about 25 kms west of the Guesthouse here in Durban - and Kris is from Cheshire in the UK. They met on the QE2 luxury cruise liner and have been together 10 years now, settling in Scotland in a village called Killin. Seen in the photos are Llewellyn (guesthouse co-owner) and Matthew drinking up a storm at the new bar that has opened just down the road - Cubana. In the second photo are Kris and Matthew at breakfast and dressed up for Church.

Easter in the Guesthouse

Easter in the Guesthouse has been awesome with fun guests from Pretoria, Durban and Boston. The photos (all by Richard or with his camera) are (top) myself Dave, Llewellyn and Richard, (second photo) in the guesthouse rooftop jacuzzi, Richard, Llewellyn, Pieter and Pieter and Dave, (Shark photo) swimming with the Sharks at uShaka Marine World, one of Durban's must-see attractions, and Guesthouse photos - view from the dining room through to the Pub, and view from the kitchen with Llewellyn's freshly baked muffins to the lounge.

Thanks for sharing your Durban holiday with us guys and for making the evenings out such fun. Hope to see you again soon!!! Dave

So much to do

Durban was the place to be this Easter with glorious sunshine making lounging around in the sun or around our Guesthouse pool or roof-top a top attraction. The beachfront was alive with festive beachgoers, surfers, the annual Festival of Chariots Hare Krishna devotees, and Zulu dancers. Seen in the photos are Kesi and Subash from Durban around the guesthouse pool and guesthouse co-owner Llewellyn catching some sun on our roof-top.

- Stunning
- 26 March 2008

This was one of my best Easter vacations I have ever had. The stunning architecture and interior design of the guest house is only topped by the hospitality of the hosts David and LLevellyn. It felt much more like visiting friends than staying in a guest house. Bubbling in the hot tub with a drink under tropic drizzle... Can you imagine anything more fun?....maybe... - Richard, Austrian in the United States

- Incredible - 26 March 2008

We couldn’t have had a better stay or experience than the one at Durbanview. You guys were incredible, and the service set a new standard. Thank you for your wonderful breakfast, excellent accommodations and a fabulous home. You made us feel comfortable and welcome — like being in our own home. Our room was a delight, and you provided everything we needed. Needless to say, you spoiled us from any other Bed and Breakfast. Thanks a million - Subash & Kesi, South Africa

- Friendly -
12 March 2007

Had a very nice stay in this guesthouse for 11 days. Dave and Llewellyn are very friendly and casual. I felt at ease right away. Feels like at home when you can help yourself out of the fridge. The house is absolutely fantastic. Nice pool and beautiful view from the roof top, where they have a jacuzzi. One day I closed the door of my rented car with the keys inside the car. Dave just called his car assistance and 30 minutes later the matter was fixed. No trouble, no costs.
— Bernd Mehring, Switzerland

- Great time - 20 December 2006

We had a marvellous two nights at the guest house - Dave and LLewellyn were fabulous hosts taking us out and showing us where to go and also exploring the scene. We only wish we could have stayed longer.
— Tim King, United Kingdom

- Amazing stay in Durban. - 11 December 2006

Hi there. My stay at Durban View guesthouse has been pleasant and relaxing; I found a reserved, quiet, clean and friendly ambiance to thoroughly enjoy; I would hardly leave in the morning of each day, but hey! Durban''s beaches worth a visit themselves!
— Stefano Stival, Italy

- Great Stay - 05 August 2006

I found DurbanView guesthouse and hosts provided the perfect balance between allowing me my own space while retaining a personal touch. The bedrooms were fantastic and I would highly recommend it to others.

It's a Valentine's Bash at The Lounge

Durban's only gay bar/club The Lounge, will again host a 330 party of note on Sat 16th Feb. Whilst The Lounge is now well established, 330 (of old 330 Point Road fame) has been looking for venues to continue the party since closing at the Point Road site two years ago.
Judging by the last party held at The Lounge some weeks back, it was a huge success and The Lounge was packed to almost capacity. So if you're in the mood for a Valentine's bash, see you at 226 Stamford Hill Road.. it won't be exclusively gay, but the music and the crowd will be worth it.

Fun in Durban

The Guest house was again full this weekend but we don't always remember to take pics of our guests. We caught these ones of Marius leaving on Sunday. He was back in Durbs from St Lucia for some fun in the big city for the weekend. (Llewellyn -guesthouse co-owner - is right in the first pic and Dave - guesthouse co-owner - is left in the second pic). Marius has promised us a reciprocal weekend up the north coast at Cape Vidal or Sodwana Bay at the end of March. I have never been up that way and I know what a beautiful stretch of the South African coastline it is, so we will be sure to bring you back some awesome beach and snorkelling pics when we go.

Hair today

We were up in Johannesburg for the weekend and just for a laugh I decided to have a little hairstyle change... or should I say a drastic change. Never done this before, but I was thinking that no one else would have some genuine grey hair around the sides to contrast with the mohawk... at least everyone at the office had a good laugh today.

Happy New Year - New Durban Dawn 2008

Catching the 5am first dawn rays of sunshine on 1st January 2008 are Llewellyn (left) and Dave, co-owners of Durban View Gay Guesthouse. Happy New Year guys! We had an awesome New Year at the Florida Road Street Party, and then The Lounge before returning to the guesthouse and snuggling with the duvet on the roof-top sundeck until dawn. Durban, our sunny east coast of South Africa port city is this morning bathed in glorious sunshine and we wish all of our past, returning and future guests everything of the best for 2008. May the guy of your dreams be yours this year!!
