Easter in the Guesthouse

Easter in the Guesthouse has been awesome with fun guests from Pretoria, Durban and Boston. So much to do

Durban was the place to be this Easter with glorious sunshine making lounging around in the sun or around our Guesthouse pool or roof-top a top attraction. The beachfront was alive with festive beachgoers, surfers, the annual Festival of Chariots Hare Krishna devotees, and Zulu dancers. Seen in the photos are Kesi and Subash from Durban around the guesthouse pool and guesthouse co-owner Llewellyn catching some sun on our roof-top.

Had a very nice stay in this guesthouse for 11 days. Dave and Llewellyn are very friendly and casual. I felt at ease right away. Feels like at home when you can help yourself out of the fridge. The house is absolutely fantastic. Nice pool and beautiful view from the roof top, where they have a jacuzzi. One day I closed the door of my rented car with the keys inside the car. Dave just called his car assistance and 30 minutes later the matter was fixed. No trouble, no costs.

Easter fun in the sea

It's Easter in Durban, here on the sunny east coast of South Africa and we have a Guesthouse full of guests here for some fun in Durbs. Enjoy the long weekend guys. The party fun is at The Lounge this weekend, Durban's only gay bar/lounge/club.

Tonight, Good Friday evening at The Lounge, is a Tanqueray PromO, Sat is the Miss Bunny contest with cash bonanza prize, and Sunday is Tipsy Night.

Tuesday at BeanBagBohemia there is a "Breaking the Bread" Cocktail Party and Wine Tasting. BBB is the very gay-friendly pub and restaurant just down the road from our guesthouse. And of course at our guesthouse we have a no-costumes roof-top jacuzzi and guest-pub keeping our guests in the fun at home. :-) Enjoy!!!

Our Gay Ski Week in Bulgaria

It's always great to be home, especially the glorious March weather of Durban, our home town on the sunny east coast of South Africa where we run an exclusively gay Guesthouse. We had a wonderful short break though.. visiting Borovets, the ski resort of Bulgaria and then Barcelona. Seen having fun with us are from top, Alex and Valentine (Russian friends middle), Llewellyn on the ski slope at night in Borovets, Dave and barman Bobby at the Mamacita's Pub in Borovets, gay friends from the UK Stu, Vic, with Llewellyn, Chris and Harry at Buzz Bar in Borovets, and bottom photo is of LLewellyn and Dave on the streets of gay Barcelona.

It's a Valentine's Bash at The Lounge

Durban's only gay bar/club The Lounge, will again host a 330 party of note on Sat 16th Feb. Whilst The Lounge is now well established, 330 (of old 330 Point Road fame) has been looking for venues to continue the party since closing at the Point Road site two years ago.

Judging by the last party held at The Lounge some weeks back, it was a huge success and The Lounge was packed to almost capacity. So if you're in the mood for a Valentine's bash, see you at 226 Stamford Hill Road.. it won't be exclusively gay, but the music and the crowd will be worth it.

Fun in Durban

The Guest house was again full this weekend but we don't always remember to take pics of our guests. We caught these ones of Marius leaving on Sunday. He was back in Durbs from St Lucia for some fun in the big city for the weekend. (Llewellyn -guesthouse co-owner - is right in the first pic and Dave - guesthouse co-owner - is left in the second pic). Marius has promised us a reciprocal weekend up the north coast at Cape Vidal or Sodwana Bay at the end of March. I have never been up that way and I know what a beautiful stretch of the South African coastline it is, so we will be sure to bring you back some awesome beach and snorkelling pics when we go.

A1 Grand Prix Durban 22 - 24 Feb

The 3rd annual A1 Grand Prix in Durban, South Africa takes place over the coming weekend Fri 22 - Sun 24 Feb, just down the road from the Guesthouse. The grand prix route is adjacent to the beachfront and the Suncoast Casino complex, one of our favourite places.

Those who love our sunny beaches and warm Indian Ocean will be sure to enjoy this venue for the grand prix as thousands of spectators flock in to Durban for the event. You can download a map of the course as well as booking information from the East Coast radio website linked here. Don't forget of course to make your accommodation booking with us too.

Hair today

We were up in Johannesburg for the weekend and just for a laugh I decided to have a little hairstyle change... or should I say a drastic change. Never done this before, but I was thinking that no one else would have some genuine grey hair around the sides to contrast with the mohawk... at least everyone at the office had a good laugh today.

Happy New Year - New Durban Dawn 2008

Catching the 5am first dawn rays of sunshine on 1st January 2008 are Llewellyn (left) and Dave, co-owners of Durban View Gay Guesthouse. Happy New Year guys! We had an awesome New Year at the Florida Road Street Party, and then The Lounge before returning to the guesthouse and snuggling with the duvet on the roof-top sundeck until dawn. Durban, our sunny east coast of South Africa port city is this morning bathed in glorious sunshine and we wish all of our past, returning and future guests everything of the best for 2008. Great diving off Durban

The East Coast of South Africa is world-reknowned for it's fantastic diving opportunities, particularly at Aliwal Shoal, minutes down the coast from Durban. Durban Gay New Year

Durban's only open Gay Party this New Year is at The Lounge, the gay bar/club just down the road from our Guesthouse. The events in the lead up to New Year at The Lounge at 226 Stamfordhill Road are:

Fri 28 Dec: Special Event with Melanie Lowe (SA Idols) entry R30

Sat 29 Dec: Open Sun 30 Dec: Closed

New Years Eve: Mon 31 Dec: Party time as we see the end of 2007. Entry is R50 if tickets are purchased before the event, and R80 if bought at the door on the night.

We will be having our own pre-party braai at home at the guesthouse for our guests and the guesthouse is full. Many thanks for the support guys during 2007 and we look forward to seeing you all again and even more international tourists in 2008.

4th Christmas together

Earlier this month we celebrated our 3rd Anniversary and Christmas next week will be our 4th one together. Here's a photo I took of Llewellyn with our Christmas tree in the Guesthouse lounge. Happy Holidays all. The Guesthouse will be full next week in the run up to New Year.

Durban Tourism Info

Tis the season to be jolly, and in Durban, on the sunny east coast of South Africa, there is much to be jolly about this season.

Especially with the best beaches in South Africa - see our poll elsewhere (right side-bar) on this blog - much of the action centres around the glorious Indian Ocean and beachfront. There are also a few gay beaches, discreet, but plenty of time and space for just lying on the sand and soaking up some summer sunshine. The Lounge 330 Party

Durban's only gay club, The Lounge, and 330 party legend have teamed up for tonight's blast at 226 Stamford Hill Road. Tickets are R80 and will be a mind-blowing event (gay guys want more though..lol). And if you don't make tonight, remember Wednesdays are Tipsy night at The Lounge with entry R30 and house vodka and brandy free 9pm - 11pm. Always a good jol!!
