Our Mr Gay World 2010 in Durban

I was priviledged to meet Charl van den Berg, our current Mr Gay South Africa, and Mr Gay World 2010 right here at the Guesthouse last night (that's Charl on the left..lol).

The Mr Gay South Africa ™ finalists for the 2010 pageant were in Durban for their Mocambique cruise which sailed today and we hosted them for a pre-cruise Cocktail function at the Guesthouse. Charl is delightful and a beautiful person and certainly an excellent ambassador for South Africa and the gay world. Welcome to Shisa

Welcome to Joe from the fun Guesthouse north of Cape Town - Shisa, where the locals go to play.

It's always a bit intimidating to have other guesthouse owner's come stay with us, like for the annual Indaba Tourism Conference in May each year, but then it's also a good opportunity to network and get to know the other gay operators in South Africa. We will be sure to visit you guys soon. We love trips to Cape Town, especially since my son is now studying there, so it's a chance to visit him, drink wine in Stellenbosch and play.

Weekend in Durban

It's a big weekend in Durban with the AmaShovaShova Cycle Race in Durban on Sunday. And guests Henk and Riaan (centre) who competed recently at the Gay Games in Cologne are here in Durban for the big race from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

Joining them for a drink in the guesthouse pub are Adrian (left), Dave (Guesthouse co-owner - back), and guests from London Greg and Will (right).

Also in Durban for a regular visit from Johannesburg is Italian Engineer Emmanuel (above). Enjoy the sunny day in Durban guys... the rain has cleared and Sunday's cycle race should be in perfect conditions.  

Mr Gay South Africa fun at the Guesthouse

Dave and Llewellyn hosted the Central region (Kzn) finals of the Mr Gay South Africa 2010 Pageant at the Guesthouse last night and pose here with winner Jared who goes through to the national finals later this year.

The boys from Cape Town

Hats off to the boys from Cape Town who exhibited (ha ha, no pun) at the Indaba Tourism Show this week. The Show ended with a Pink Party at the Guesthouse and as you can see from the pics we all had a load of fun.

Fun at The Lounge

The weekend at The Lounge saw the crowning of Mr Gay Boy 2010 (second from top in the photos), although he didn't want to wear the crown as it would mess with his hair. Congratulations Ben, the crowd were loving you.

In the other photos, guesthouse co-owners Llewellyn and Dave enjoy a drink at The Lounge with Sanhip Singh and guests Renier and Dewalt from Pretoria.

Guesthouse hot pics

I am sure I promised you some hot pics of model Tyrone Nell from his recent photo shoot for Spartacus International at the Guesthouse. Well here they are am I am proud to say I got to take them myself. Thanks Tyrone for making yourself available and for adding plenty of excitement to the Guesthouse last Saturday.

The photos also show off a bit of the Guesthouse with scenes shot around the pool, the rooftop jacuzzi, the outside shower and the patio deck off the Pool room and Rainbow room. These were recent building additions we made to the Guesthouse. Dave

In the photos above are hunky Ballito boy Gavin Deale seen at the Guesthouse recently when he won through to the finals of the Mr Gay South Africa Pageant.

Another hot finalist from Westville is Tyrone Nell (below), seen in this recent shoot.

Tyrone qualified as a finalist for the Mr Gay South Africa Pageant at the Knysna Loerie Festival earlier this year. He was also in attendance at the KZN Finals of the contest at the Guesthouse here last month checking out the competition.

Durban boy and finalist from the KZN regional finals of the Mr Gay South Africa Pageant, Tyrone Roberts will be viing for the top title in Johannesburg in November.

Tyrone is one of 3 KZN boys in the running for the title.

Meeting the Artist

Guest Christiaan Diedericks (left top) and his partner Chris (right) visited Durban and the Guesthouse for the opening of his Cold Sweat Graphic Art Exhibition at the ArtSpace Gallery here.

Meet Nelson

Meet Nelson Clemente - composer, musican, singer, who with partner Les is a frequent guest at the Guesthouse.

Here last week for the Mr Gay South Africa pageant (see photo below) Nelson hails from Perth, Western Australia and has been staying with Les at Richards Bay (help) for the past number of months.

You can catch Nelson in singing mode at the Zululand Expo from the 24th - 26th September. Nelson will be giving 3 performances (each evening) during the Expo. Follow the link also to his website where you can download and hear some of his compositions.

Mr Gay South Africa finalist Chris Macgregor

The Eastern Cape regional winner and finalist in the Mr Gay South Africa Pageant is hotting up the stakes - here's sexy Chris Macgregor who hails from Durban but is staying in Cape Town at the moment. Lucky Cape Town.

Durban's Tyrone Nell vies for Mr Gay South Africa

Here is Durban's own Tyrone Nell who is competing for the Mr Gay South Africa 2009 title.

The KZN regional finals will be held this Sat 12 Sept at our Guesthouse and the finals later in November. Tyrone is pictured here modelling a new range of underwear about to be launched in South Africa.

Guests from Europe

David from France and Romijn from Netherlands who are in South Africa on a work contract - Romijn is with Barclays Bank and seconded to Absa - visited us in Durban for a break from the pressures of the corporate world.

Weekend at the Guesthouse

Hey it's weekend at the Guesthouse and we're having loads of fun.

In the photos enjoying a drink around the Guesthouse Pub are co-owner Llewellyn, and Johannesburg guests Paul and Peter and Brett. Lance and David also from Johannesburg came down to celebrate David's birthday - 3 virgos in the house tonight and two of us share the same birthdate even!!

After many drinks the rooftop jacuzzi was the place to be and in the 3rd photo it's shooters all round as we sing Happy Birthday to David.

From Around the World

Welcoming Guests from around the world is Llewellyn, Guesthouse co-owner, (2nd from right), with from left to right Wayne (Johannesburg), Leonardo (Columbia), Lawrence (Belfast) and Deon (Cape Town).

Leonardo is our 3rd guest in as many months from South America and is joining 3000 international delegates for a Statistics Conference at the ICC.

Melanie sings at the Guesthouse

What a fabulous weekend we had at the Guesthouse. Idols famous Melanie Lowe (top, 3rd and 6th photo) had her official coming out show called "Living the Truth" which kicked off with 2 shows at the Guesthouse. From Durban she tours the country taking with her her message of hope to all gay people of South Africa.. as she chronicals her journey and decision to come out.

Melanie became engaged earlier this year to Angela and they will be married in Elgin (Cape) on the 21st March next year.

Shannon Hope opens Show

Shannon Hope opened the Show at the Guesthouse this Friday. It was part of Melanie Lowe's "Living the Truth" Coming out Tour which kicked off in Durban this weekend.
