Fun in Durban

We enjoyed a fantastic evening out with our guest Ulf (left) from Sweden, seen here with guesthouse co-owner and my partner Llewellyn at one of Durban's top restaurants. Ulf still could not believe how you can have an incredible meal for a fraction of the price it would cost in Europe... the delicious steak with veg and mushroom/pepper sauce at Durban's TripAdvisor # 2 restaurant was about 8 Euro.

Ulf also wanted to see Durban from a bird's point of view, so he took to the Durban Skyye in a microlight, flying along the scenic Durban beachfront the the Harbour and back to the lighthouse..

Best Esibein!!

Our mate Lee's birthday was an opportunity to get together and drive up the north coast to Salt Rock for one of the best eisbeins I have had.. very yummy and great company. Happy Birthday Lee!!

Congrats to Lee on his 40th

We suffered on Monday after our lunch and drinks for Lee's 40th at Bel Punto on Sunday which continued with more drinks at the Guesthouse afterwards.

Congrats Lee! It was great to share your special day.

Fun with mates

A night flight to Margate for dinner with mates on Saturday was the mission for the weekend, especially as we got stuck there after an electrical fault and had to spend the night, getting the fault fixed on Saturday. The amazing Burlesque restaurant was well worth the visit with beautiful and tasty food and lovely décor.

Fun weekend

We had a fun weekend in the Durban surrounds this weekend and discovered a new place for our guests to visit when coming to this part of the world. ..1000 hills chef school and micro-craft-brewery.
They make over 10 labels and we did a beer tasting, rating each of the beers and choosing the best. We also bought a few of the beers for the guesthouse bar and for our guests to try. The brewery joins a growing number of new micro-breweries that are springing up and our verdict was excellent.
The chef school and brewery is just 45kms west of Durban nestled in the 1000 hills area - truly spectacular and worth a visit. We also had lunch there, cooked by the chefs in training and the cheeses, pickles and salami were all made there.. yummy and a great find.

Supper at Billy's

Llewellyn and Dave, guesthouse partners, enjoy burgers at Billys

Our favourite Pub in Durban for cocktails, good food and hot barmen and patrons, is Billy the Bums.

Here we enjoy a bite to each - awesome hamburgers - with guests Raphael (middle) and Johan and Jean (3rd pic). Look out for Billy's 3pm-7pm Cocktail deals for R15!

Fun in Durban

Filip, Llewellyn, Jörg and Ulrich

Guest Filip (Tenerife) joins guesthouse co-owner Llewellyn and Jörg (Hamburg) and Ulrich (Berlin) for drinks in the guesthouse Pub before dinner out.

In the second photo Filip enjoys a steak at the Cubana Restaurant in Florida Rd, served by Dylan.

In the 3rd photo, the guests were introduced to The Lounge gay bar in Durban for a shirts-off evening and a game of pool. You will notice that both guests spent a little time in the Durban sun without adequate sun protection... so nice to have glorious sunshine, warm sea and beaches and hot guys here!

Eating out in Durban

We don't eat out often enough, but when we do, our favourite pub and restaurant where the guys are hotter and the food good and resonably priced is Billy the Bums. We even have a loyalty card going there.

We joined guests Phillip (left) and Renier (right) for a drink and dinner at Billys, forgetting that Tuesday was ladies night, so there were a whole load of hot chicks there... Mondays are best when it's Burger and Beer special... mmm

Nightcap at Harveys

Friend and waiter at Harveys, Graham, with Llewellyn (centre) and myself (Dave)

Fine dining and elegant decor at Harveys

We don't often have our main course there as it's fine dining and top of the range, but last night we popped in after dinner at Billy The Bums, for a nightcap at Harveys.

A glass of sherry and a delicious Chocolate Mousse cake to share.. just the trick before home.

Prawn Fest

Enjoying a taste of prawns from 25 participating restaurants at the Prawn Festival in Durban last night are myself, Dave (left), Ian (centre) and Llewellyn.

By the end of the evening we still had food vouchers left after eating more than a dozen prawns each prepared in a variety of ways - the best being the Mozambik restaurant in Ballito. Very yummy.
