It's been a busy few months for Guesthouse co-owner Dave whose son and daughter both got married in the last few months, his daughter this weekend past.

Llew's Dad visits

Llewellyn's Dad Owen pays us a visit for a few days as it's birthday month for both of us as well as Llew's twins. We cooked a yummy roast at the guesthouse that Owen won in a lucky draw.

We had a visit to Long Beach, California to meet Llewellyn's dad who has relocated there with his new wife Karin.

Christmas holidays

Christmas is upon us and it's time for a break from work, some family fun and a guesthouse full of guests. Awesome. Today my son and his mate Dain took a drive to the nearby Kloof gorge and spent the morning sliding down slippery rocks into swirling pools and climbing mountains in the roasting heat. Amazing day with the boys!

 

Fathers' Day in South Africa

It's Fathers'  Day in South Africa and what a joy it is to be surrounded by such awesome kids. Thank you African savages for making the day so special for us dads. And thanks to the weatherman for the sunny 27c winter's day in Durban  perfect for the beach and beachfront as we bid goodbye to our Netherlands and Japenese visitors and welcome the Nigerian and South Korean fans for the next game here on Tuesday.


In the photos are Llewellyn with his kids Lauren, Calvin and Caitlin, and I am eating ice cream with my daughter Kate-Lynn at uShaka Marine World, having walked the stretch from North Beach to uShaka and buying World Cup caps and bands.

Durban abuzz for Germany vs Australia tonight

The Durban beachfront outside the World Cup Stadium is alive with Ozzie Socceroos and Germans eager to watch their team beat the other tonight. It was a glorious sunny day and the surfers were out as well as the fans.

In the photos guest Rudi shows which team he is supporting whilst my family and friends also took a stroll down the beach promenade to get a feel of the action.

Time out to the Beach

After a house load full of Guests for Christmas and New Year we took time out this week with the kids to the beach at Scottburgh.. our favourite camping spot just a short distance down the south coast.

Rubic's Cube 21st

Dave gets ready for daughter Kate-Lynn's 21st Birthday with a Rubic's Cube theme... everyone needs to dress in the 6 colours of the cube then swop clothing with other guests to end up all one colour. Should be loads of fun.

Mark returns to Durban

Guesthouse co-owner Dave's son Mark arrives back in Durban after completing his schooling and a holiday adventure to Thailand. Welcoming him in the photo is daughter Kate-Lynn.

As he arrived back today the newspaper was out with this Matric exam results giving Mark 4 As - for Mathematics, Life Orientation, Geography and Accounting. Well done son!!

Festive Season is here

In the run-up to Christmas Llewellyn tried his hand at a lamb-on-the-spit for his staff end-of-year function.

Here he is carving up the lamb which turned out tender and tasty after 3 hours on the rotating spit-braai.

Birthday and Building

Dave's Birthday was largely spent this year supervising the builders making the alterations to the Guesthouse for the patio deck.

Llewellyn took the day off work too and raced around with Dave taking cake to the office, fetching artwork Dave put together for the office renovations as well as onsite meeetings with the builder, the steel guy, the electrician and engineer.

There was time to fit in a Long Island Iced Tea made famous in Durban by Billy the Bums and roast a Beef roll to take to Hillcrest to enjoy with mom, Lynn and the kids along with Llewellyn's fine cake he baked for Dave.

Pretty in Pink

When I saw the fields of pink outside the Nottingham Road tourist office I couldn't resist taking this photo. Llewellyn of course refused to jump in, take all of his clothes off and lie naked in the flowers, so this is the best shot I got. :-)

If the organisers of the midlands Pink Festival at Nottingham Road wish to make this an annual event, it will need a lot of promotion outside of the small farming midlands community to bring the people here next year. We nevertheless had a lot of fun and think the venue and idea was great. We went up on Saturday and stayed over with a friend that night, doing a pub crawl and drinking the specially prepared "Pink Beer" made by the famous Nottingham Road Brewery. The brew really was very good and is capable of being sold in gay venues elsewhere - we will have to upload a pic of us drinking some so you can see it really does have a clear stawberry colour.

New Rules for GAY Marriage .....

Now that South African Gay Marriages have been legalized, here are the new rules:
1) On the day of a gay wedding, it's bad luck for the two grooms to see each other at the gym.
2) Superstition suggests that, for good luck, the couple should have:- Something bold, Something flirty, something trashy, something dirty.
3) It's customary, at Gay and lesbian nuptials, for the parents to have an open bar during the entire ceremony.
4) Gay wedding tradition dictates that both grooms refrain from eating any of the wedding cake because it's all carbs and sugar.
5) It's considered bad luck for either of the grooms to have dated the priest.
6) During the first dance, it's considered unlucky to use glow sticks, flags, whistles or hand held lasers.
7) For good luck at the union of a drag queen, the bouquet is always thrown in the face of a hated rival.
8) The reception hall must have a disco ball and at least one go-go dancer.
9) The wedding Singer is not allowed to play/sing Let's Hear It For theBoy, It's Raining Men, or I Will Survive.
10) The father of the Bottom has to pay for Everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-) :-) :-)

Our Anniversary

Yesterday was our 23 month anniversary. Wow, it is hard to believe that we met 23 months ago - seems like yesterday that fate brought us together, well actually it was Gaydar. I have met my soul mate, the most wonderful man my heart could wish for. Thanks Dave for 23 months of romance. I love you madly forever Llewellyn
